Cinematic Art by Kai Neville

… And some proper charging by Craig Ando. The Quieter You Are The More You Can Hear is the culmination of more than 2 years of filming by Kai Neville and Dave Fox. If you are looking for a high octane, Monster Energy-fueled surf clip you may want to look elsewhere. However, before you do, I’ll first ask if you first wanted to relax and watch this short film.

Tubes and airs galore, this 20-minute-long video is true to its title, as it focuses on the cinematography (both Super 8 and 4K) and the mystical surfing ability of Craig rather than relying on killer music. The tunes are mostly electronic and are without a singer / lyrics. Judging from the film’s title, Neville is hoping that in the absence of overpowering music, the viewer can more greatly appreciate the slo-mo shredding, proper camera work, and scenic locations the crew visits. There is one song with lyrics (“Fields” by Death in June), which is really sick, works well in the film, and worth a download too.

Overall the edit stands out amongst a large pool of surf clips to watch. It seems like the video will be one that is much more well-received by other filmmakers than those who aren’t in the industry. Either way, the movie is worth the watch and truly bridges the gap between art and raw surfing.
